I went for CD3 b/w last week and my nurse said that everything looked good (I'm waiting for some specifics #'s).
My RE doesn't do HSG's in the office so I got referred to a nearby hospital to get it done and I went yesterday and it was just pure crap.
Let me just say that I also have a severe shellfish allergy and the dye used in the test mimics the dye found in shellfish so I had to take meds prior to the test to prevent allergic reaction. I had to take 32mg of medrol at 1am and then another 32 mg at 11am and then the HSG was at 1pm. The meds gave me a headache and weird taste in my mouth.
So it takes the Dr. 3 tries to get catheter in cervix and the 3rd time he said it's only going in 1/2 way I'm going to try to see if this works, well when he shot the dye the catheter popped out - great move D-bag. So then they re-position me and try again and this time it goes in all the way. In between each try to insert the catheter he used some plastic tool to try to open up my cervix - it was irritating and annoying. He also kept asking for more dye - 2 times - I'm like how much dyes this asss*ss need. I heard the nurse tell him usually it only takes 10,000 cc's or something and he used 30,000.
He does test which was annoying and gave me a lot of pressure and then towards the end I got very nauseous and light-headed. Once test was done and everything was removed I felt somewhat better. Eventually room stopped spinning and I got to leave. I am was also bleeding a lot - nurse warned me after he left that I would be since he irritated the hell out of my cervix.
All day yesterday I felt light-headed and nauseous and am still feeling some cramping/pressure today.
I really think that my HSG was bad because
1 - he didn't know WTF he was doing! I've had other tests done with catheters in cervix and have never had trouble inserting into it before and have never felt pain before
2 - they didn't have stirrups! I had to stay with my legs spread open for 45 minutes and it was so uncomfortable and I kept worrying I was going to kick him (he deserved it). I also think this is why it was so hard to get catheter in my cervix, I wasn't positioned properly.
so, bottom line, he said I am all clear. The actual test part is ok, lots of pressure and cramping and then it's over. I am telling my RE's office not to send people there anymore.
Now we wait for AF to arrive, which hopefully will be last week of October and then we can get down to business.
I have been back and forth a lot about when to start and scared about d-iui and D has been kinda hesitant too. But in the last couple of weeks we both have gotten really excited to be moving forward. When I asked if we could cycle this month and my nurse said we had to wait for next period, I actually felt a little sad.
We're really glad we have this opportunity to be parents.

I can understand feeling a little conflicted about moving forward, but hopefully this is the beginning of the end of your TTTC journey. I am pulling so hard for you and your DH to finally get your (so very deserved) baby.
And WTH? They didn't have stirrups?! Insane! Hope you're feeling better...
HOW HORRIBLE! My HSG took 15 minutes, that includes signing in and getting dressed to leave! I'm glad you're speaking up about, how does a hospital not have sitr-ups?
I can't wait till you start, it is definitely your turn!! Are you definitely going to try next cycle? I think they only benefit of not doing it "the old fashioned way" is that we get the opportunity to plan things out a bit!
Wow - so sorry your hsg experience was so sucktastic, but happy to hear that all is clear!
Can't wait for you to finally be able to move ahead!
Ugh my HSG was ridiculous too. Right before the doctor came in they were asking about my last period. When I told them it was a day shorter than normal. They panicked and told me I had to take an HPT. Except they didn't have any. So I had to ask my friend who drove me, to go get some, then I had to show them by umpteenth negative pregnancy test... Talk about insult to injury.
It was very painful as well. Light headed, nausea... All that good stuff. I'm sorry yours was traumatic too. But WOO HOO for moving forward! I know it feels a little scary.
I wonder why they wouldn't let you cycle this month?
Oh and mine was at a hospital and they didn't have stirrups either... WTF?
Wow my hsg only took a total of 10-15 minutes and like you said there was some cramping and burning but nothing terrible. I'm sorry to hear yours went that way.
Oh how awful. I am so sorry you had to go through that...
OK my HSG hurt terribly. But still yours sounds worse. I'm sorry.
Ugh! I'm sorry that you had to endure such a hellish HSG! Like you (and others!), mine was at the hospital too and they didn't have stirrups either! What the heck is up with hospitals that don't have stirrups for this test?!
The doctor who did mine was a total douche with a capital bag and I too had endure a lot of poking and prodding with those awful instruments. Blech!
Glad you got it over and done with - but hope you're feeling better after all that soon. Sorry it was so rough! :(
I had a crappy HSG too I think they aLL suck at it because its archaic! My doc was like 80 and had a kinda shake!!! he had to get cath in for second time and tried to insert with out starting over which hurt like an sob and he had to start over any way...I just went to my happy place oh yeah and i was just laid out on this HUGE metal slaB!!!! I felt like i was in an episode of 6 feet under!!!!!!!!
Anyhoooooooo Im keepin you in my ST GERARD prayers because This aLL CLEAR is such a GREAT beginning to your journey of becoming parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Huge loVE to you two!!!!!

My guess is that your headache was due to the medrol as this is a side effect that some people, myself included, experience with iv steroids. You may want to read up on the others as they can be unpleasant. They include insomnia, weight gain and irritability. It will make you feel much better to know why you are having these strange side effects if they occur.
What a moron of a doctor! Does he do these on a regular basis? I'm sorry you had to go through all that.
The whole DIUI thing is a little scary...our first cycle I was sitting there that night and start freaking out about having done it.
*hugs*
What a nightmare - I am so sorry. The DS has gotten easier and easier for us as time goes by - these babies are ours and were meant to be ours. It is hard at first and we still have nostalgic moments but for us, it (so far) has been totally worth it.
What a horrible experience! Sorry you had to endure that. I can't imagine sitting that way for 45 minutes. You should have kicked him simply for being such a d-bag.
Glad that you got the all clear though!
That sounded awful, I'm so sorry it was such a mess. Mine was pretty painful and I had to wait in a weird butterfly position for like 20min, pure torture, so I feel your pain. I have an award for you on my blog. Congrats!
It's funny how much HSG-angst we all have in common--I also had an archaic doctor, there were also no stirrups (in a radiology place, though...but they "do these all the time," they told me!), and it also took FOREVER for them to get that stupid catheter in. The first time they shot the dye in the doc started asking me about what kind of pelvic surgery I'd had before...um, none? "Oh, I see, the catheter popped out...let's do that again..." followed by a lot of screwing around and him finally HOLDING IT IN there with his HANDS while shooting dye the second time!
Either way. SO glad it's all clear--yay!
