We're doing the Surgery

So we're NOT doing IVF in Sept.

After asking the Dr. and his nurse, a million questions and talking it over, DH wants to have the procedures. So, at some point in the next 2 months DH will have surgery on his balls and the veins that surround them. It will be 6 months before the mTESE could take place and we will be on the schedule for IVF in March of 2009. He believes that these procedures will increase sperm production and increase our odds for IVF (up an additional 10%). While 10% is not a huge increase in odds DH really wants to try everything and 10% is big in terms of IVF.

These procedures should be covered by insurance and the mTESE is not. Our IVF cycle will cost us over $30,000 and if these procedures could increase our odds it makes sense to do it. DH really wants to do it, not only to increase our odds, but also b/c he feels like he is doing something
.
Dr. S's nurse, have I mentioned she is amazing, is checking with O.R. and trying to get us in for surgery end of August or Sept.

I spent the morning calling my RE, my IVF coordinator and insurance coordinator and thanking them for all there help and letting them know we're on hold until March of 2009.

While I am so happy that these procedures will help increase our odds, part of me is sad that DH has to have more ball probing, he really is the best husband ever. I'm also a little sad that we have to wait until next year to try IVF, it seems so far away. While I am very grateful that all of this worked out and we hadn't ordered IVF meds, I'm still a little sad.

Thanks so much for all your support and please pray that DH's surgery increases his sperm production a lot :)

Your husband is very brave. I just read your post about the ball surgery to my husband, and his balls just retreated back up into to his body. He is such a bitch. So I asked him if he would do this and he said he really wouldn't want to but if it meant we wouldn't be able to have a child he said "well i would rather look into alternative methods". So kudos to your husband.
